Apple’s Big Unveiling of its Mixed-Reality Headset is reportedly set for WWDC 2023 on June 5
Apple’s highly anticipated Mixed-Reality Headset has reportedly been in development for over 5 years, but due to numerous setbacks such as overheating and software issues, its release has been delayed. However most recent leaks show that we may finally see Apple’s next big thing in just a few months.
Renowned Apple insider Mark Gurman has reported that Apple’s Mixed-Reality Headset will make its debut at the highly anticipated WWDC event scheduled for June 5-9. Apple enthusiasts have eagerly awaited this device for many years, and while the Event will be hosted both in person and online, reports suggest that this latest device will be unveiled at the in-person event held at Apple Park.
The Development of Apple’s Mixed Reality Headset
The Mixed-Reality Headset from Apple is currently the talk of the town, but the hype for this product is not new. The leaks about Apple’s headset go as far back as 2017. Of course, at the time, nobody was considering these leaks to be true. Every year new leaks show up with the information that Apple will reveal its headset this year, then next year, then the following year. But, most recent leaks from Mark Gurman and other Technology insiders, show that this may not be the case this time.
In 2022 and 2023 leaks have shown more and more details about Apple’s next product. All the leaks became suddenly very believable – For example, leaks about the very detailed specifications of the headset – reports say, that it will feature a 120 Horizontal FOV, 4K x 4K OLED microdisplays, 15 cameras inside and outside the device, and all sorts of tracking methods, including eye, face, hand, and leg tracking. Other leaks tell us about Apple showing its headset to the 100 Excetuvies, or that Tim Cook approved the headset release, according to the IGN.
We all know that Apple has its own way of making its products, the Apple way. Apple always wants its products to best the best of the best, So it is not uncommon for Apple to work on some products for more than five years. But, according to the reports, Apple designer teams are worried that Apple’s Mixed-Reality headset that they are working on is not fully completed. Other reports say, that it lacks a killer app that would encourage people to buy this headset.
What to Expect from Apple’s Headset on WWDC 2023
The WWDC event is primarily focused on the developer community, so unveiling a whole new category of product at the event may be a really good way to introduce developers to the new platform, consequently causing them to make new apps and games on xrOS, which will be the name of the new operating system on Apple’s Mixed-Reality Headset.
At the June 5h event, Apple is also expected to preview its upcoming iOS mobile operating system, iOS 17. The new operating system could contain numerous features, though it is unlikely to contain a significant change like the updated iPhone lock screen brought forth in iOS 16. The headset launch is expected to overshadow any iPhone software updates, as it has been rumored for years and is eagerly anticipated by the public.
Apple’s Mixed-Reality Headset most probably will be a major update from existing technology. This $3000 Headset will feature technologies that just weren’t in VR/AR headsets earlier, such as micro-oled displays, built-in full-body tracking including eye and face tracking, several lidar sensors for room mapping, and advanced mixed-reality capabilities.
We can surely expect other companies like Meta, Samsung with Google, and smartphone manufacturers to take the Apple path, by making their own Mixed-Reality Headsets very similar to what Apple has to offer. It is worth noting, that Apple isn’t expecting big success with this headset, nay, it is ready for failure. The price is just too high for people to buy this headset, and Apple knows this – it was reported, that Apple already started working on the second-generation headset, which will be two times cheaper and much more powerful.
