A new hardware device from Valve has recently obtained radio certification in South Korea
While the VR industry eagerly awaits the release of Quest 3 in just a month, there’s also significant speculation surrounding Valve’s latest Mixed Reality headset, codenamed Deckard (which may potentially be named Index 2). Brad Lynch, a respected dataminer within the Virtual Reality community known for uncovering information about this headset, has recently been sharing substantial details about the device.
While we can confidently say that we have an idea of what the device may be like, we cannot be certain about its exact specifications or pricing upon release. However, as shared by Brad Lynch, Valve has obtained radio certification for their new unknown hardware device, which strongly suggests it may indeed be their headset.
There are multiple possibilities for what it could be. However, before we delve into those options, let’s analyze what we see in the image below.
This South Korean radio certification has revealed an unidentified hardware device from Valve. The company has previously obtained these certifications for its other products, such as the Steam Deck and Valve Index, typically at least a month before their release. Quest 3 received certification just a month ago, so this can make the company supposedly have a few month’s window before a proper announcement will be made.
The ‘device name’ is the same for Quest 3 and Steam Deck, and it’s also quite similar to the Vive XR Elite (although it uses different frequencies) Therefore, trying to guess what the device really is based on its ‘device name’, which is shared with other, sometimes unrelated products, might be misleading. There are several possibilities for what this device could be – it could potentially be a new iteration of the Steam Deck with improved screens, a Steam Deck Pro, a Valve Controller, or the long-anticipated Valve Index 2, which the company has been working on for years.
It’s worth remembering how Valve introduced its headset a few years ago, seemingly out of nowhere, just a day before Facebook Connect four years ago. Could the company be planning a similar surprise reveal once more?
